24 Mar 2009Have to say, I do not like the new Comcast commercials with the Juno ripoff style. At all.
Comcast Commercial:
First, it’s over a year too late in the making. It feels like one of those Meet The Spartans movies in commercial form. Have these creatives been watching Juno on HBO as much as me? Seems so. Great movie, btw.
Second, the delivery of the song is so lacking in originality that it not only apes Juno, it immediately brings to mind a FreeCreditReport.com commercial. Strike Two!
Here’s where I seriously consider calling the copycat police while I ring you up with strike three..
The title of this campaign is ‘Dream Big.’

Is anything about this campaign original?
That’s also one of the most popular quotes from the movie:
Bren: When you move out I’m getting two Weimaraners!
Juno MacGuff: WHOA DREAM BIG!
Heck, it has even inspired this novelty shirt:

I wonder how many of these shirts sold...
What might have been interesting a year ago is just lazy and boring today.
Some, do like it. I can’t
get past the stench of the retread. Did Diablo Cody get handed a duffel bag when I wasn’t looking?

13 Mar 2009I want this so bad.

Also, while we’re talking about Michael…check out the list of things they inventoried from his house for the upcoming auction. I like #4829.

This is one of the worst commercials I have ever seen. First off, people already dislike commercials. Wishing the commercial would end should be one of the things that advertisers strive to AVOID. Could anyone sit through this without being at least mildly disgusted? Personally, I don’t eat clam chowder. I do eat soup, though. So, let’s say this ad is for soup. It succeeds in making me nauseous to think of eating soup, so I can only take the leap and think that this ad makes clam chowder fans sick as well. I think that, along with nails on the chalkboard, bathroom noises and that familiar screech of tires that comes before you get hit by a truck, hearing people slurping soup/chowder is one of the least attractive sounds on earth. I will say this, the ad makes me remember Legal Sea foods. However, it makes me remember to never go into their restaurants again. Ever. Colossal misfire. Did anyone see this ad AFTER the Superbowl (where it debuted). Me either. Probably because it was terrible and was consequently pulled after a single airing.

27 Feb 2009This is my blog. Most posts will be better than this one.
Mike Frizzi is a self-proclaimed curmudgeon. He is also a perceptive, curious and difficult to impress fellow who enjoys criticizing elements of advertising, marketing, social media and anything else he decides is worthy of his attention.
